Writings
by Philip A. Thomas
- Shoes/No shoes This is a recent piece (and therefore a rarity!) inspired by life in Hawaii.
- Woods-Orchid This is a hitherto-unpublished piece, written one December eve in 1984.
- Kelly This poem was inspired by a wonderful "Photo by Hoppy" (Lloyd Cassida) of his granddaughter (and, of course, by Kelly herself!). I'm not sure of the date I wrote it, but it was originally published in a North Buncombe High School (Weaverville, NC) publication in 1980.
- Kelly 2 (untitled)
This poem was inspired by another wonderful "Photo by Hoppy" (Lloyd Cassida) of his granddaughter (and, of course, by Kelly herself!). This one was written on 25 September 1984 "[i]n chem. lab, waiting for things to heat & cool... {w/ pix of Kelly Tinsley as inspiration}."
- Midnight Gardener This
poem was first published in Cadenza (Vol. 20, Spring 1985),
the Mars Hill College student
art & literature publication. It won 2nd place
in the poetry division (whoopdedoo!).
- Rich Girl This
poem was first published the same issue of Cadenza as "Midnight
Gardener," albeit without the (dubious) distinction of
a Cadenza award. It was originally published under the pseudonym
"Tony T."
